Leave Entitlements

  • Annual Leave/School Holidays - payment is reduced on a pro rata basis and adjusted for the December/January leave period for teaching staff who work less than the prescribed school year. Non teaching staff annual leave entitlements accrue at the rate of four weeks per year.
  • Personal/Carer's Leave - encompasses sick, bereavement/compassionate and carer's leave.
  • Parental Leave - the College will make two lump sum payments (equal to 8 weeks pay) to staff who are the primary carer in the first 12 weeks following confinement. Parental Leave of up to 18 months may be granted to allow staff to commence or resume from Maternity Leave at the beginning of a school year or term.

Salaries

  • Salaries are determined based on qualifications and experience. Bialik salaries are above those prescribed in the relevant Awards.
  • Annual leave loading is already incorporated into salaries.

Superannuation

  • Bialik College contributes the appropriate % of salary in accordance with Superannuation Guarantee Legislation.
  • Superannuation salary sacrifice is offered directly through the College payroll.
  • The College offers full 'Choice of Fund' to staff.
  • Staff are able to contribute to superannuation and are offered the opportunity to make contributions from pre-tax income.
  • The College's default superannuation funds, MLC provide the opportunity for staff to insure against temporary and/or total and permanent disability.

Police Record Checks

  • Bialik College requires all persons being appointed to a position provide a satisfactory Police Record Check as a precondition to employment. The check will form part of a Victorian Institute of Teaching membership application for those who have not previously been employed as a teacher.
  • The Business Manager is responsible to assess record check documentation.
  • Staff are requested to complete a Statutory Declaration in relation to their Police Record pending the outcome of the Police Criminal Record Check.

Teacher Registration - Victorian Institute of Teaching

  • All teachers in Victoria are required by legislation to be registered with The Victorian Institute of Teaching.
  • Approval to Teach (pending the granting of registration) - may be granted provided applicants meet all teacher registration requirements and have already lodged documentation with the Institute.
  • Teachers must be registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching prior to commencing duty.
