About Bialik

Jewish Life

In its approach to Jewish Life, Bialik College seeks to do more than simply provide Jewish education to our students. We strive to stimulate, enhance, and engage the cultural and spiritual life of our students inside and outside the classroom through a vast array of both formal and informal learning experiences which take place each day in our school community.

The Jewish Studies curriculum remains faithful to the College’s founding philosophy. Comprehensive and enriching, the curriculum encourages students to view personal and social relations, achievements and responsibilities in the light of Jewish tradition with a strong emphasis on Eretz Israel.

Bialik enjoys a longstanding close relationship with the Melton Centre of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. The school sends teachers to the Centre for sabbaticals, mid-year and summer visits which have greatly enhanced the school’s Jewish program by developing teachers’ individual knowledge and skills. Melton Centre staff visit Bialik regularly to help develop new curricula and programs. This close relationship is of immense value to Bialik and is indicative of the commitment Bialik has to providing the most innovative and meaningful Jewish education possible for its students.

Through our experiential educational programs led by our staff and schlichim, students learn to apply their Jewish knowledge to every day life. Bialik College students enjoy residential camps, Shabbatonim and Israel Study Tours through informality and fun. Many students also choose to learn their Bar/Bat Mitzvah torah portion with our designated bnei mitzvah teacher.

While Bialik does not prescribe a standard of personal religious behaviour, the school encourages parents to avoid hosting parties on Yom Tov and Shabbat, and to be sensitive to kashrut dietary laws when classmates are invited.

Bialik aims to provide its students with the tools, and to foster within them the interest, to encourage them to pursue their Jewish learning and their communal involvement following graduation, leading to a fulfilling Jewish life.
