Bialik has long been recognised as leading the way in educational innovation. For some time now, we have been working on a significant and exciting project.

Under the patronage of V & A Dorevitch, Bialik College and the Harvard Graduate School of Education: Project Zero are collaborating on an extended research project entitled Cultures of Thinking.

The Cultures of Thinking Project is taking Bialik to the next level of teaching and learning, and building on the excellent results achieved through the Reggio Emilia approach to education implemented in our early learning years.

The Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Project Zero is an internationally renowned educational research unit. The Cultures of Thinking Project will provide our teachers with the opportunity to work with educators of the calibre of David Perkins and Ron Ritchhart. Both have worked with schools around the world and have written ground-breaking educational papers which have shaped teaching and learning practices worldwide.

The Cultures of Thinking Project has already yielded many positive outcomes for our school community including:

  • the project’s focus on effective, long-term professional development to further motivate and inspire our staff
  • the overarching objective of broadening and deepening our students’ thinking capabilities.

The emphasis on deeper thinking, open-mindedness and community values is not only expanding and invigorating our students’ classroom experience, but is also enhancing their ability to communicate and interact logically as they become more adept in considering a range of views.

While all of our staff have direct contact with the Harvard team, the project currently involves six teams of teachers (some 35% of our staff) who meet regularly, put their new knowledge and skills into practice, and receive and respond to weekly feedback and insights from our Harvard colleagues. Karin Morrison is the project leader. This is a very exciting opportunity for Bialik College, our staff and your children.

The Cultures of Thinking Project, under the patronage of V & A Dorevitch, is sponsored by Bialik College in collaboration with Project Zero and the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
