JNF visits the ELC for a special Kabbalat Shabbat28 October 2009

Last Friday, at the kinder 4 grandparents kabbalat shabbat, a special ceremony took place. The children have spent the past 2 years focusing on a theme of nature and trees, and this has been tied into a project with the JNF. The JNF, together with Bialik College, planted a tree in Israel for each child in the class. Planting a tree in Israel symbolised making the children's roots to their Jewish identity strong and meaningful.

Victorian Athletics Championships28 October 2009

On Monday 27 October, Yr 4 student, Matthew, partcipated in the Victorian Primary Schools athletics held at Olympic Park. Matthew competed in the Triple Jump event, finishing n the top 10 of the state. Congratulations to Matthew on such an achievement.

Year 8 students take 'The Lion King' to the Preps28 October 2009

Last Monday, the Year 8 Hebrew class sang the first melody from the Lion King movie – The Cycle of Life – in Hebrew to their Prep buddies. The Year 8 students hope to do this again with other Year levels.

Years 3 and 4 camp28 October 2009

Last week the students of Years 3 and 4 escaped the hustle and bustle of Melbourne to enjoy activities overlooking the Portsea front beach. 139 enthusiastic students (some nervously) went away for a few days and returned with many stories and new friendships.

The Blanca Smatana Year 5 Production22 October 2009

The Blanca Smatana Year 5 Production will be presented in the Victor Smorgon Hall on Wednesday 28 October at 7.00pm. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on the evening. No tickets will be presold for this event.

Enviroweek 200921 October 2009

Last week our Primary School joined thousands of people all over Australia for ‘ENVIROWEEK 2009’. This initiative, by ‘Cool Australia’ (an essential website for all things environmental), was embraced enthusiastically by students from Years 2 to 6.

Singaporean Principal visit21 October 2009

The Principal of Assumption English School Singapore, together with a group of his teachers, visited Bialik College in October. They were particularly interested in the Cultures of Thinking project, the project Bialik College is working on in collaboration with Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The visitors toured the school, met with teachers and were very enthusiastic about what they learned during the visit and the ideas and strategies they could take back with them to Singapore.

Each Wednesday at 7.30 am a group of Year 8 boys meet at the school’s basketball courts to confront a host of challenges based on the rigorous training conducted in the Israeli army, under the supervision of Bialik College shaliach, Nir Issachar.

City of Boroondara - Children's Week Concert7 October 2009

Kinder boys visit the Principal5 October 2009

The ten boys in Kinder 5Z visited Mr Gerassi to hand deliver an invitation to their special Kabbalat Shabbat.

Succot at school5 October 2009

The first two days of Succot fell during the holidays this year, but we were back at school for the chol ha’mo’ed period, Shemini Atzert and Simchat Torah to enjoy activities in the school’s Succah and ‘bentch’ lulav and etrog.
