Reminder - Earth Hour @ Bialik tomorrow afternoon.26 March 2009

In 2009 Bialik is an RSS (Resource Smart School) working together with CERES to educate our community. As such, the Bialik Community is working at becoming a sustainable school creating an awareness about environmental issues. In support of this year's global EARTH HOUR (Saturday 28 March, 8.30-9.30pm), Bialik will conduct its own EARTH HOUR on Friday 27 March, 2.30-3.30pm.

Dance Club grooves and moves25 March 2009

Every Friday lunchtime the dance club takes place in the amphitheatre with lots of enthusiastic dancers of all ages.

Friday Stamp Club25 March 2009

Julie Simpkin runs the stamp club every Friday lunchtime in the library. Julie brings in a vast assortment of stamps to intrigue her club members.

Year 12 Biology visit to Gene Technology Access Centre25 March 2009

On Monday 23 March, the Unit 3 Biology class, 27 students in total, went to GTAC (Gene Technology Access Centre) at University High School to spend a day exploring the theory and practical aspects of proteins for their Biology SAC.

Year 4's - getting ready for Pesach25 March 2009

The Year 4's participated in some Pesach related activities, such as bedikat chametz, making matzah and of course singing and eating soup with matzah balls!!

Debating news24 March 2009

Round 1 in the Debaters’ Association of Victoria Schools Competition was held on Thursday 19 March at Scotch College. This was the first experience of interschool debating for three of the D Grade teams and several other students. Overall, Bialik teams performed well with four teams successful, several others losing by the very narrowest of margins and five of our students being selected by adjudicators as Best Speakers in their respective debates. Thanks to the adjudicators who worked tirelessly to help debaters prepare.

Palindromes and more for Year 323 March 2009

In Maths, the Year 3 children together with Teacher Caity shared a learning experience using numbers. Using the think routine of ‘Claim, Support, Question’ they explored number palindromes and other open ended Maths problem solving activities.

An abundance of clever canines wandered the Piazza on Monday after school this week. The dogs were auditioning for the starring role of Toto in our forthcoming production of The Wizard of Oz.

Bialik kids go bald raising money for leukaemia research.13 March 2009

Many Bialik students raised money and chose to have their heads shaved - others opted for the colouring option. Either way lots of fun was had and more than $2000 was raised for leukaemia research.

Matthew chosen by ABW6 March 2009

Matthew, one of Bialik's Year 12 students, has been chosen as one of only 60 Victorian students (with a max of only one student per school) to take part of Australian Business Week at Deakin University Geelong Campus. The students were also carefully selected to ensure there is a good mix of people from different backgrounds (geographical, social, cultural etc).
