Bialik Swim Squad25 August 2006

The Bialik Swim Squad will train in the new Gringlas Sports Centre from the beginning of Term 4 with sessions running from 7.15-8.15am. Interested Year 6-10 students should see Mr Wheeler to register interest and obtain the necessary forms.

Casual Day in support of Sudanese Refugees25 August 2006

Friday 25 August was a Casual Day for Year 2-12 students in support of Sudanese Refugees.

Early Morning Fitness Squad25 August 2006

The Early Morning Fitness Squad involves a combination of running training and fun games. Open to students in year 5 and above, the fitness squad is held on Wednesday mornings at 7.30am. Please be on time. Breakfast is provided for participants at the end of the training session.

Garden club news25 August 2006

The Gardening Club has operated only for a few weeks and, in that time, a greenhouse has been completed, various plants are now sprouting from seed, and a project to prune and harvest olives from Bialik's own olive trees is also underway. The club meets twice weekly. Other plans to develop garden beds around the school are also being developed.

Annual Golf Day24 August 2006

It's time to hit the green, play some golf and support Bialik at our 2006 Golf Day. The day promises to be filled with food, fun and great prizes.

A number of Year 3-10 students travelled by train to the Koori Heritage Trust where they participated in an Aboriginal education program entitled 'Introduction to Koori Culture'.

Tournament of Minds21 August 2006

On Sunday 20 August, two primary teams and one secondary team from Bialik competed in the Tournament of Minds at Swinburne University in Hawthorn.

Chocolates for Mali18 August 2006

Another Mali fundraiser, run over a six week period, was the Year 9 chocolate drive, raised over $2300. In addition to selling chocolates at Bialik, the students liaised with the local Chamber of Commerce to sell chocolates at local shopping strips after school and on weekends. Congratulations to all concerned.

Jewish inter-schools' snow sports' championships17 August 2006

More than 30 students represented Bialik at the ABL Australian Jewish Inter'Schools Snow Sports' Championships held at Mount Buller on 8 August. With more than 180 competitors from both Victoria and NSW , and beautiful weather, the day was a huge success. Bialik won a number of divisions and, as a result, won the entire competition. Congratulations to everyone who skied and snowboarded on the day, and thanks to all the parents who supported, offered their services as official gate keepers and who took part in the parents' race.

Goodnight Nurse, a 3 piece pop-punk outfit, held an open-air lunchtime concert in Bialik’s amphitheatre for students (and neighbours) to enjoy.

Dancing for Mali13 August 2006

On Sunday 13 August, our Year 9 students held a disco party for over 150 Year 2-5 students in the Victor Smorgon Hall to raise money to build a school in Mali, West Africa. In addition to the music and dancing, activities on the night included face painting, making juggling balls, 'tattooing', make-up and nails, and air hockey. The function was a wonderful success, raising over $3000 and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.

Learning that matters - a Project Zero seminar open to Victorian teachers11 August 2006

On Monday 7 August, 350 Victorian educators flocked in to the Victor Smorgon Hall to attend a seminar delivered by Prof David Perkins for the Harvard Graduate School of Education on the topic 'Learning that Matters'.

Socks and Jocks11 August 2006

We thank our students, staff and parents who supported our Socks and Jocks collection for the Ardoch Youth Foundation. The goods have been sorted into sizes and they have been distributed by Ardoch Project coordinators in project schools.

10 prizes for Bialik at the 11th annual B'nai B'rith Jewish Youth Art Competition7 August 2006

Opened by Lady Anna Cowen, the prize winners of the 11th annual B'nai B'rith Jewish Youth Art Competition were announced on Sunday 6 August. Bialik's entrants came away with 10 prizes including the prestigious Morrie Gold Memorial Prize (the 8th time we've been awarded that prize in 11 years). One of our students also won the B'nai B'rith Victoria Prize for the best work on a Jewish theme.

Great food, great company, beautiful surroundings and an inspirational speaker pretty much sums up the fantastic 2006 Bialik Parents' Association Annual Luncheon.

Partnership and friendship with the Shittim School in the Arava3 August 2006

15 Year 10 guests from the Shittim School in the Arava shared a fortnight of life at Bialik. The intensive and rewarding program forged strong friendships between the Shittim and Bialik students, aptly reflecting the desired aims of the UIA's Partnership 2000 program.
