The Bialik Year 5-6 Football teams competed in the AFL Multicultural Cup on Thursday 16 August at St Kilda Football Club’s training base at Seaford. Both a girls and a boys team competed in separate competitions and it was great to see the spirit and camaraderie build throughout the day.
The aim of the event is to build relationships and enjoyment around a modified version of AFL, which is nine a side and non-contact. Both Bialik teams conducted themselves well and managed to make it into their respective Grand Finals after five pool matches.
The boys were underdogs in the final but managed to get the jump on the Mt Scopus team. Playing with a team-first attitude, they withstood a tense fightback to claim the title.
In the girls finale, the students fought very hard and pushed right to the line, unfortunately going down by 8 points.
Both the Bialik teams displayed an excellent attitude and had a terrific day.
