Humanitarian Carl Wilkens Speaks to the Year 10s

Recently, the Year 10 students gathered in the theatrette for a Skype session with Carl Wilkens. Carl was the Director or ADRA (Adventist Relief Agency) in Rwanda in 1994. When the genocide broke out, the US government evacuated all US citizens, yet Carl refused to leave. Instead he sheltered Tutsis in his home, delivered food, water and medicine to orphanages and stood in the way of killers protecting innocent Tutsis.

This was a fascinating opportunity for the students to hear first-hand experiences about one of history’s huge tragedies and for them to ask questions.
