Aboriginal Writer and Lecturer Visits Bialik

The Year 7s had the privilege of listening to Jeanine Leane’s inspiring story that led to the writing of our Year 7 integrated unit’s English text, Purple Threads. Jeanine is an Aboriginal woman from the Wiradjuri country in New South Wales who is currently a Senior Lecturer on Aboriginal Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Melbourne. Jeanine is a renowned Australian author and shared her knowledge and personal experiences of growing up as an Indigenous woman in a small rural community.

Students gained knowledge of what it means to be a writer and learned a valuable lesson in how they can apply this knowledge to the writing of their own memoirs as part of their Roots Projects for 2018.
