With an ever increasing number of girls entering careers in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), it was extremely exciting for ten of our Year 9 girls to head over to the Emerging STEM for Women Program at Ecolinc Science & Technology Centre in Bacchus Marsh.
The day consisted of guest speakers, a range of workshops and a ‘STEM Careers Speed-Dating’ session, during which the students got to meet, talk with, and learn from, a range of women in the STEM fields, as well as a range of higher education providers who were able to outline career pathway opportunities and courses available for students in the STEM fields.
The girls enjoyed making their own biodegradable plastic and honing their coding/robotics skills, amongst other interesting activities. They said that it was especially encouraging to hear from one of the speakers who is a young woman with a successful career in STEM, who attended the very same program when she was in school.
