Science Talent Search Success

ROSENKRANZ CENTRE FOR EXCELLENCE AND ACHIEVEMENT (STEM)

In Term 3, twenty-three students from Year 4 and twelve students from Years 5-9 joined our Science Enrichment Opportunity and became researchers and inventors in their quest to design and create an entry into this year’s Science Talent Search, with the theme of ‘Australian Game Changers and Change Makers’.

Our students submitted entries in the following areas: whole class research project, video games, scientific posters, inventions, videos, games and experimental research. They met regularly at school and also spent many hours at home working on their project plans and designs in preparation for judging day at the end of July.

On judging day, students were required to explain their thinking and processing to two independent judges from The Science Teachers Association of Victoria with all students receiving encouraging feedback and feeling confident about their presentations.

This was the first year Bialik entered a whole class research project and excitedly, Teacher Rob and class 4A received a Major Bursary in the Middle Primary section by making their classroom bloom.

Bialik College, as a whole, were awarded The Hugh McKnight Encouragement Award and 35 of our students received bursary prizes and certificates, recognising their outstanding achievements. These were awarded at a ceremony at La Trobe University on 29 October. Congratulations to all of the students involved in Science Talent Search 2018!
