Historic Festival Debut!
On Thursday 7 November, members of the Year 5 and 6 Orchestral Program attended the Victorian Schools Band Festival for the very first time in Bialik music history.
The students, under the baton of Sarah Trainor, have been preparing their pieces since the beginning of the year and finally got the opportunity to play in front of music students from other schools. After each of their performances, they took part in a master class with one of the festival adjudicators, who took them through the pieces and provided them with constructive and nurturing feedback. The Year 5s received an ‘excellent’ grading and the Year 6s a ‘very good’ grading.
The pieces the Bialik students played represented typical concert band repertoire, bringing together wind, brass and percussion with the addition of double bass and bass guitar.
The students had a meaningful experience and learned a lot through their participation. We were very proud of their results for this first time effort. Due to the success of this event, it will become a regular feature of our music curriculum.
