What makes a great learning space? At Bialik College, our Alan Finkel Launch Lab has received international recognition for its innovative design and thoughtful approach to education.

The Alan Finkel Launch Lab has been awarded a Special Mention in the Architecture +Learning category of the 2026 Architizer A+ Awards, an international awards program based in New York that celebrates outstanding architecture from around the world.

Designed by architect Maurie Novak of Obsessive Architecture, the Launch Lab was recognised for its innovative approach to creating spaces that support learning, curiosity and collaboration.

More than a building, the Alan Finkel Launch Lab brings together a library, science laboratories, maker space and kitchen garden in an interconnected learning environment. Its design reflects Bialik’s Cultures of Thinking approach, encouraging students to explore ideas, ask questions, experiment and make connections across different areas of learning.

Every element of the building has been thoughtfully considered. A central staircase connects spaces dedicated to creativity, discovery and scientific investigation, while stepped terraces link the science laboratories with the kitchen garden below. Even the building's curved architectural features draw inspiration from the scale of Earth, the Moon and Mars, reflecting the spirit of exploration at the heart of the Launch Lab.

Completed in 2025, the building represents Bialik's commitment to creating purposeful learning environments that inspire students and support their educational journey.

This international recognition celebrates not only architectural excellence but also the important relationship between thoughtful design and the way students learn.
