Small Musicians, Big Confidence: Music at Bialik College

Student News • Monday, 24 Aug 2026

At Bialik College in Melbourne, music education offers students opportunities to develop creativity, confidence and performance skills from their earliest years of school.

At Soirée Katan, our Prep and Year 1 instrumental students stepped into the spotlight, performing for family and friends and sharing the skills they have been developing through their music lessons.

Learning an instrument takes practice, patience and persistence. Performing in front of an audience brings a different challenge: managing nerves, trusting your preparation and finding the courage to share what you've learned.

For our youngest musicians, Soirée Katan was an opportunity to experience all of this firsthand.

Students learning piano, drums, violin and cello took to the stage, demonstrating that even our smallest performers can take on big challenges.

Music opportunities from Prep to Year 12

Bialik College offers instrumental learning opportunities beginning in Prep, with violin, piano and percussion/drums available to Prep and Year 1 students. Additional instruments are available from Years 2 to 12, depending on student interest.

Through experiences such as Soirée Katan, students have opportunities to put their learning into practice, celebrate their progress and develop the confidence to perform for others.

Because sometimes, the biggest achievement isn't playing every note perfectly. It's having the courage to play in the first place.
