Financial Accountant
We are seeking a Financial Accountant to join our Finance Team and play a key role in ensuring integrity of data, reporting compliance, analysis of core systems data to enhance the quality of reports and future system upgrades.
The position will support, manage and oversee the department of payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable in conjunction with providing daily support to the Finance Manager and Director of Business.
This is a full-time ongoing position to commence as soon as possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Payroll staff in interpreting NES, Enterprise Agreement and Awards.
- Continue to improve the payments and payroll process.
- Coordination of the accounts function - ensure the accounts payable and receivable functions are performed in an efficient and timely manner by managing workloads, monitoring, and developing work systems, determining priorities and implementing guidelines.
- Review the exception reports on coding of items such as invoices, expense reports etc., ensuring adherence to standard procedures.
- Examine and analyse financial information, present findings to senior management.
- Support business profitability and growth through findings and recommendations
- Assist with budgeting & forecasting, preparing the monthly profit and loss, and balance sheet reports
- ATO submissions and reporting.
- Advise on estimates for project funding
- Prepare month-end and year-end reports, as required and assisting with the preparation of year-end accounts and statutory accounts
- Analyse current accounting systems, making suggestions for enhancements where needed.
- Perform other duties as required to support the Finance & HR Departments.
- Prepare quarterly cash flow statements, and controlling expenditure and cash flow
- Respond to financial inquiries by gathering and interpreting data
- Examine financial records to check for accuracy.
- Manage and train team when necessary
- Manage the general ledger including overseeing the monthly balance sheet, banking, and inter-company reconciliations
- Complete monthly accruals, journals.
- Ensure Accounting standards and policies are adhered to and ensure the College follows all required legislation.
- Proactively identify new initiatives that could benefit the organisation.
Role Requirements
- Relevant Accounting / Finance Qualifications
- At least 2+ years in a financial accounting environment
- Very high levels of attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficient in understanding the larger picture of AFS, the purpose and the linkage. Strong understanding of information system and advanced Excel skills.
- Time management skills and ability to manage conflicting deadlines
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to lead / direct other staff members.
- Ability to effectively support internal and external stakeholders.
