Head of Informal Jewish Education

The Head of IJED is one of the key ethos leaders in the College. They are a role model, leader and lifelong learner dedicated to furthering their own Jewish journey and that of all students in a pluralist, inclusive and Zionist learning environment.

- Lead building a vibrant, caring and joyful Jewish community at Bialik
- Facilitate pathways for engagement in Jewish life for all students
- Empower students with skills and understandings to further their Jewish and Israel journeys beyond school

This is a full-time role, term time only commencing Term 1, 2026.

Primary Responsibilities


Leadership and Management

- Drive IJED initiatives throughout whole school
- Set clear objectives
- Lead, mentor and support IJED staff and Student Leadership
- Continue to reflect upon and refine IJED objectives and outcomes
- Manage the IJED’s budget and ensure the department is well resourced
- Ensure effective and timely communication with parents, staff and students
- Plan initiatives in advance which take account of possible changing circumstances

Curriculum and Programming

- Champion, promote and develop curricula and experiences that further Jewish and Zionist journeys for learners of all ages in the College
- Develop and coordinate the MACH curriculum and maintain its documentation
- Run regular IJED meetings, PL and training
- Attend PLs after school for all staff to inform and extend practices
- Implement strategies for shared planning and implementation of initiatives
- Oversee and role model best practices in Informal Jewish Education
- Integrate and promote the Cultures of Thinking approach across the College and Reggio Emilia philosophy in the early years
- Promote community service throughout the College
- Build student responsibility and leadership in school and the wider community

Staff Related

- Create clarity around goals and priorities for the team
- Build an effective team, create strong morale and team spirit
- Assist with the appointment, induction, and appraisal of staff
- Support underperforming team members
- Support staff to resolve problems as they arise
- Support SLT, Heads of Department and colleagues in implementing school vision
- Create a climate in which people want to do their best, empower others and invite input from each person on the team

Skills & Experience

- Experience in leadership in Informal Jewish Education in a school setting
- Outstanding communicator and educator
- Ability to communicate a compelling vision and purpose to inspire a team
- Positive relationships with students and ability to challenge and support
- Willingness and ability to attend and lead events and meetings outside school hours
- Expertise in an area of Jewish Education
- VIT registration optional
- Role model professionalism and organisational values and ethics
- Role model love of Jewish learning and menschlichkeit
- Drive to innovate, promote and invest in IJED as the heart and soul of the school
