Laboratory Technician

We are seeking a passionate & motivated Laboratory Technician to join our team, working Part-time, 21 hrs. pw (0.6 FTE). The successful candidate will commence in Term 2, providing technical and administrative support to teaching staff in the Science Department and will work within the College's newly built Launch Lab.

Duties and Responsibilities


- Prepare all equipment as requested in the Risk Assess Program (database) required for experiments and demonstrations for all science classes as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
- Assemble, pre-test and modify, if necessary, all practicals, demonstrations, and other teaching support resources requested by science teaching staff.
- Assist in completing an annual stock-take of equipment to enable ordering of required equipment for the beginning of the following school year.
- Perform risk assessment for Laboratory duties associated with set up of practical exercises and maintenance of laboratory chemicals and biological stocks.
- Ensure preparation of practical activities complies with current OH&S workplace standards and codes of practice and to be aware of the related legislation.
- Clean and pack away, unassisted, all equipment and chemicals used for the experiments and demonstrations.
- Responsible for the feeding, cleaning and maintenance of animals and their enclosures.
- Assist with cleaning and maintenance of laboratories, including equipment, bench tops etc.

Skills and Experience:

- Previous Laboratory Technician experience.
- Relevant post-secondary qualifications.
- Working knowledge of current OH&S legislation.
- Strong administrative skills.
- The ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Valid Working With Children Check & willing to obtain a Police Check.
- A First Aid certificate would be preferable.
