Guest Speakers Architect Stephen Jolson and Artist Hedy Ritterman come to Bialik to speak to the Year 7s for their Creative Roots Project

Thursday, 30 Mar 2023

Over the past week, architect Stephen Jolson and contemporary artist Hedy Ritterman kindly came in to Bialik to talk to the Year 7s about the value of creative responses and how these can be made to highlight personal memories and honour one’s family and identity.

Stephen brought in a suitcase that he had designed many years ago when studying architecture, it’s contents reflecting that of his grandfather’s experience during the war, contrasting with his own at the same age. The children were mesmerized and were invited to look more closely. Hedy presented the children with differing ways of creating memory art using a combination of sound, video, photography, collected items and installation. We look forward to seeing how these year 7s will present their own creative responses. Year 7 families are encouraged to take the time over the holidays to chat with their children about their own ideas.

Thank you to Hedy and Stephen for both being a great source of inspiration to the children.
