What happens when competition, culture and community come together in one event?

During Reconciliation Week, students attended the Indigenous Games at Worawa Aboriginal College, taking part in a day that celebrated connection, culture and shared experiences through sport.

The event provided a valuable opportunity for students to engage with peers from other schools while learning more about Indigenous culture and the importance of reconciliation. Throughout the day, students demonstrated enthusiasm, respect and a willingness to embrace new experiences.

A highlight of the program was the 3km cross country event, where students challenged themselves and continued building their fitness ahead of the upcoming Eastern Independent Schools of Melbourne competition. Their determination and resilience were on full display as they tackled the course with pride.

One student achieved an outstanding result, finishing first in the event and earning well-deserved recognition for their performance.

Beyond the competition itself, the Indigenous Games served as a powerful reminder of the value of respect, unity and learning through shared experiences. It was a meaningful way to mark Reconciliation Week and celebrate the connections that sport can help create between communities.
