Year 5s Make Olive Oil with Guest Reuvi

Wednesday, 21 June 2023

Our Year 5s recently hosted a wonderful visitor, Reuvi, who shared the magical process of making olive oil. Olive oil holds deep meaning in Judaism, symbolizing purity, endurance, and divine abundance. It played a significant role in ancient times, such as lighting the menorah during Chanukah. Today, olive oil continues to enrich our rituals, from lighting Shabbat candles to preparing blessings for the sick. The olive branch symbolizes peace and hope, while the olive tree represents the enduring bond between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel. In Hebrew class, the Year 5s learned about "Neot Kedumim," a remarkable place in Israel that preserves ancient traditions of pressing olives and grinding wheat, allowing us to connect with our ancestors' timeless practices.
