Year 7 Scent Showdown: Where Business Meets Creativity
What does business smell like?
For our Year 7 Economics and Business students, it smelled like popcorn, perfume samples and entrepreneurial thinking in action as they took part in the exciting Scent Showdown.
Working in teams, students designed, marketed and pitched their own original fragrance businesses, transforming classroom learning into authentic customer experiences. Each group developed a unique brand and product concept before presenting their business ideas to an audience through engaging and creative pitches.
Presentations featured live unboxings, scent demonstrations, role-plays, branding showcases, market research and compelling product storytelling. The variety of approaches highlighted the imagination and confidence of our young entrepreneurs.
Before stepping into the spotlight, students completed extensive planning and analysis. They investigated competitors, developed customer profiles, calculated profitability and conducted SWOT analyses to better understand the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats facing their businesses. This process helped students apply key Economics and Business concepts in a practical and meaningful way.
The result was a vibrant showcase of collaboration, strategic thinking and visible learning. Students demonstrated not only their understanding of business principles but also their ability to work effectively as a team, communicate ideas persuasively and respond to audience feedback.
The Scent Showdown provided students with valuable insight into how businesses operate in the real world. Through the experience, they explored how successful businesses respond to customer preferences, identify market opportunities and create products that connect with consumers.
Most importantly, students discovered that business is about more than products and profits. It is about understanding people, solving problems and bringing creative ideas to life.
